Zena Clarke Counselling provides a safe environment for children and young people aged 3-14 years, to express themselves, in a developmentally appropriate way. The counselling approach is holistic, with a child-centred strengths focus. A range of modalities are used including creative therapies, life story work, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), play therapy, trauma informed care and practice, mindfulness and relaxation techniques.
The practice is located in the Port Macquarie central business district and provides a discreet and nurturing environment for working with children and young people.
Zena Clarke has over 11 years' experience of working with children and young people, across a range of contexts, including early intervention, homeless and disadvantaged youth, mental health, school counselling, grief and loss, children exhibiting signs of complex trauma, children with life limiting illnesses and children within the hospital context.
Zena has worked with children and young people from various backgrounds and across many cultures, including working in the inner city and south western suburbs of Sydney, with remote communities in the Northern Territory and within the Port Macquarie-Hastings area.
Zena is passionate about working with children and young people, and is a strong advocate for children's rights, helping to empower, support and advocate for children, young people and their families, in a system that can often be difficult to navigate, under times of increased pressure and stress.
Zena has a keen interest in Play Therapy and has worked with many children and young people using this method. Research has shown that play is not only imperative for children's growth and development, it is supportive of children with additional needs and has been proven to be an effective means to allow children to express themselves, in a way that is reflective of their development and experience .
