Zena Clarke Counselling provides a safe environment for children and young people, to express themselves, in a developmentally appropriate way.  The counselling approach is holistic, with a child-centred strengths focus.  A range of modalities are used including creative therapies, life story work, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), play therapy, trauma informed care and practice, movement interventions, AutPlay therapy, mindfulness and relaxation techniques. Zena is a Accredited Clinical Supervisor with PACFA and a Registered Play Therapist - Supervisor (RPT-S) with Australasia Pacific Play Therapy Association (APPTA). Zena offers clinical supervision to clinicians, working within a range of contexts and from varied disciplines. including counsellors and play therapists. Zena has over 10 years experience, working collaboratively with supervisees and providing reflective practice clinical supervision. Zena provides a safe environment for supervisees to be able to reflect on their work, assess progress, engage creatively, discuss ethical dilemmas and implement training and development of skills where applicable, to ensure best practice. Zena offers Clinical Supervision via Telehealth and online.


About Zena

Zena Clarke has over 16 years' experience of working with children and young people, across a range of contexts, including early intervention, homeless and disadvantaged youth, mental health, school counselling, grief and loss, children exhibiting signs of complex trauma, children with life limiting illnesses and children within the hospital context.

Zena has worked with children and young people from various backgrounds and across many cultures, including working in the inner city and south western suburbs of Sydney, in Port Macquarie-Hastings area, with remote communities in the Northern Territory and providing counselling online.

Following a recent relocation to Launceston, Tasmania Zena is currently providing Telehealth and online therapy support only, for the time being. Zena will consider options to resume face to face therapy in Launceston in the future, please continue to check the blog update on this page and also Instagram.

Zena is passionate about working with children and young people, and is a strong advocate for children's rights, helping to empower, support and advocate for children, young people and their families, in a system that can often be difficult to navigate, under times of increased pressure and stress.

Zena is a Registered Play Therapist Supervisor with Australasia Pacific Play Therapy Association (APPTA) and an AutPlay Therapy Certified provider. Zena has worked with many children and young people using these methods. Research has shown that play is not only imperative for children's growth and development, it is supportive of children with additional needs and has been proven to be an effective means to allow children to express themselves, in a way that is reflective of their development and experience .

Zena holds a Bachelor of Social Science (Counselling), is a Registered Play Therapist -Supervisor with APPTA. Zena is a Certified AutPlay Therapy Provider, and A Cool Kids facilitator.

Zena is an Accredited Clinical Supervisor with Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA)

Zena is a clinical member with a number of national professional peak bodies, who are responsible for setting professional standards, to ensure accountability and ethical practice.
